Bruce joined Sassoon in the late 1980s: “The name Sassoon had such a mystique for me that I thought I couldn’t start living unless they let me in.” In 2006 Bruce was made UK Creative Director and has become a principal player in the launch of all the new lines, including Sassoon Professional Care line.
His enthusiasm has never wavered as he continues educating and developing the next generation of the Sassoon creative team, describing his new role as “nurturing talent, inspiring and supporting, being a giver not a taker.”
Bruce has always loved the underground, edgy cuts worn by the key faces of rock and roll – | the likes of the Rolling Stones circa 1967, Nico of the Velvet Underground, Patti Smith, and Debbie Harry of Blondie. As he says, “edgy looks that are lived in, connected with the person, hip but not contrived. I don’t like looks that are like hats on top of heads.”
His eye for effortless cool has been noted by others and caused him to be responsible for some of the key looks of the Manchester music scene. Sassoon techniques are the key, he feels, to his success, “a way of achieving whatever you want in hair – when you know the ABC Cutting Hair the Sassoon Way method you can do anything you want – and that’s when the creativity starts.” |
