The Introduction

Minimum- precise and clean, powerful and serene. Hair design with no distraction. This season, a honed clarity of thought allows the purity of Sassoon technique to shine through. Colours and shapes are reduced to their absolute essentials taking inspiration from the colour field painters of the seventies American art scene. Frank Stella, Bruce Nauman, Sol le Witt, and Dan Flavin infused the white void of minimalism with bold geometric accents of colour.

European Colour Director Peter Dawson and his team pay homage to such precise pin-sharp brights with the meticulous application of Chromatology colour, a range that offers unlimited intermixing possibilities with great depth and tone. When combined with Minimum's clear graphic tailored cuts, a modern energy is brought to hair design.

Minimum- the place to go when fashion has gone everywhere else.

Behind the Scenes

If the idea is to enhance but never overwhelm, this airy, white empty space creates the perfect environment for a creative collaboration between the Sassoon Creative team, photographer Lachlan Bailey, stylist Beth Fenton and make-up artist Petros Petrohilos. They understand the staging is minimal this season and like all minimal art everything is focused on shape, texture and the surrounding space so that bright colours have an exaggerated, luminous presence. Make-up is minimal, sculpting the shape of the face into shadowed zones with a bright slash of colour applied to the lips; colours are selected to echo the hues of the hair.

Clothes are svelte, with clean black line moulded to the body- its all about reducing proportions down so that physique takes over from the clothes themselves. And the colour-vibrant greens, reds and primary blues provide searing lines of perfect placement that are echoed by arcs of sculpted light that play about the body. As Mark puts it "Each shoot is about elevating Sassoon technique to a couture level."
