Salon Apprentice

The Sassoon apprenticeship programme is recognised worldwide as the pinnacle in hairdressing training. Each one of the key techniques founding the Sassoon philosophy will be passed on to you, the newest generation of qualified hair professionals. Your apprenticeship will be divided into three main stages, covering all the bases needed to provide you with a comprehensive path to hairdressing success. The nature and content of each stage changes as you progress through your apprenticeship, however a few things remain constant: you will receive personal guidance and mentoring from qualified Sassoon teachers; theory and practical assignments are given to assess progress at regular intervals; throughout each stage of your apprenticeship you will be regularly assessed to ensure that you are achieving the learning goals required by Sassoon standards.

The first stage incorporates key skills which gives a general introduction to all aspects of hairdressing.

Highlighted below are a few of the subjects you will cover:

  • Perfecting shampooing, blow drying and finishing hair with product.
  • Learning how to style, dress and finish hair.
  • Understanding head shape and bone structure.
  • Learning how to conduct a successful client consultation.
  • Exploring good client care.
  • Discovering the science of hair.

After having gained experience in the above, education in these areas is continued. The world renowned Sassoon classic precision cutting and colouring skills is then introduced.

The second stage of the Sassoon apprenticeship draws together many of the skills you have already learned, giving you more confidence and a better understanding of the total role of a hair professional.

This stage incorporates further specialised Sassoon cutting and colouring techniques alongside key skills. Below are some examples of further subjects that will be covered:

  • Styling and dressing long hair
  • Creating a variety of looks using a combination of cutting techniques.
  • Colouring hair using a variety of techniques.
  • Planning and implementing promotional activities.

The final and possibly the most exciting stage of the Sassoon apprenticeship is designed to give you the time to perfect the skills you have learned and utilise the knowledge you have gathered to prepare you for working in a salon environment with some of the best creative minds in the industry. Here, you will refine all of your skills to the standard expected of a qualified Sassoon team member in preparation for your classic assessment.

In line with the Sassoon philosophy of continual education, training continues to take place once you have qualified as a team member within the salon. The Creative Director will guide you through the latest Sassoon looks which culminates with a Creative presentation where you will identify a theme, clothes styling and make-up.
